Program Description

The Arts Manufacturing Production program at Sonora High School introduces students to the exciting world of visual communication, combining technology, commercial arts and creativity to solve real world design problems. This three year program for high school students is part of the CTE Arts & Manufacturing pathway. Students will learn how to design, manufacture, promote and sell a variety of design products. They will explore design software, art, drawing, photography, print, fashion, and art production.

In the first year the program introduces the elements and principles of graphic design communication to grades 9th through 12th to build an artistic foundation. Students begin development of their computer, drawing and photography skills. First year students can explore the program and get arts credits before deciding to join the pathway and earn their certificate of completion.

Second and third year students with a “c+” or better can join the pathway classes where they learn to create various design products. Supported by our manufacturing Lab, they will operate and maintain professional manufacturing equipment that will include large format printers, laser cutters & engraves, sublimation printers, direct to garment printers, vinyl cutters and 3d printers. They’ll study how to take projects from concept to final product and in the process master how to interact with clients, price their work, collect payments and keep financial records. The products created include logos, banners, posters, presentations, wall graphics, floor graphics, stickers, hats, t-shirts and 3d objects. They’ll experience how to  operate a small business and the money they make will be used to buy materials and make the program self-funded. After they exit the program students will be well positioned to pursue a design career or join the work force. In addition to professional training, students can also obtain certifications on all the machines used in the lab as well as the Adobe creative software. This is a new, fun and exciting program.
