Guidance Program
Guidance is committed to providing a comprehensive planning program in grades 9 – 12 where students and parents receive regular and timely information enabling them to make informed decisions.
Working with Guidance Personnel, each student will:
Ninth Grade
  • Understand graduation requirements.
  • Investigate the career center.
  • Start a personal career folder.
  • Develop a personal education four-year plan with immediate focus on the 10th grade.
  • Have a knowledge of college admission requirements.
  • Have a knowledge of steps necessary to successfully enter chosen career or after high school career training opportunities.
  • Review educational, career, testing, and course data during a scheduled parent/student/counselor conference.
Tenth Grade
  • Take a survey of personal values, interests and abilities. Develop a career plan based upon survey results and career research, and establish career goals.
  • Have a working knowledge of appropriate pre-college testing and college entrance requirements.
Eleventh Grade
  • Understand personal interests and abilities and relate these to future goals.
  • Review individual graduation progress.
  • Formulate post-high school plans.
  • Research specific college entrance requirements.
  • Understand college test and application dates and deadlines.
  • Investigate college, financial aid, and occupation Information.
Twelfth Grade
  • Meet individually with Guidance staff member to review graduation status and post-secondary plans.
  • Complete college applications, tests, and entrance requirements.
  • Interact with college and career representatives.
  • Review and apply for financial aid and
  • Scholarship opportunities as appropriate.

The following services are also provided to parents and students:
  1. Orientation to high school.  (School initiated)
  2. Annual registration, scheduling and program adjustment.  (School initiated)
  3. Periodic review of graduation progress. (Counselor/parent initiated)
  4. Scheduled student, parent, and counselor conferences to assess progress. (School/parent initiated)
  5. Intervention and referral to appropriate agencies, if needed, for academic, personal and social problems.  (School/parent/student initiated)
  6. Career options offered by Regional Occupational Program (ROP).  (ROP initiated)
  7. Freshman/Sophomore Parent Night. (Counselor initiated)
  8. Junior Parent Night. (Counselor initiated)
  9. College and financial aid nights. (School/counselor initiated)
  10. Community College/Career Fair (School/Counselor initiated)
  11. Assistance with:
  • College selection
  • Career training program selection.
  • College admissions.
  • Scholarships.
  • College and career training school visitations.
  • College and career recommendations.
  • Parent and teacher conference.
  • Financial aid information.
 
 
Academic and Career Counseling

Students become aware of possible personal, educational, and career goals. Regular program review of plans ensures that the changing needs of students continue to be met.
Students Will Acquire Competencies In:
Academic Planning by developing an educational plan that includes appropriate course work consistent with desired goals, interests, and abilities.
Career Planning through self-assessment
Career Exploration through elective courses
 
 
 
Special Services

The guidance team addresses the needs of students with cultural and language differences, as well as social and academic problems. Students with special needs will have access to on campus and community referral and support services.
