Principal's Message
Welcome to the Sonora High School website. As principal, I believe you will find our website an informative and
useful tool to gather information regarding Sonora High School.
A four time California Distinguished School and six year WASC accredited school, Sonora prides itself on
promoting the success of all students in an atmosphere of mutual respect and caring. Students, staff
members and parents work closely together to strive for rigor and excellence in academics, athletics, and
service to the La Habra and surrounding communities.
Sonora has been in Newsweek's top 1,200 schools in America for four out of the past five years. This puts
Sonora in the top 5% of over 27,000 high schools nationally. Our teachers, counselors, classified staff
and administration have a rich tradition and dedication to the success of your child from the time they
enter high school in the 9th grade until they graduate four years later.
Sonora provides academically challenging programs for all students with different interests and needs.
Students can apply for our International Baccalaureate Program, now in its 23rd year. They can choose
from our Golden Bell Award winning Medical Careers Academy, now in its 17th year. Sonora offers Honors
classes and an Advanced Placement Diploma Program, AVID, and Agriculture. Students can take Fine Arts,
such as Dance, Band, Choir, Drama and Art. Sonora offers Army JROTC, Mandarin and Culinary Arts. We are
proud of our Community Based Instruction and Autism programs servicing students with special needs. In
the area of extra curricular activities, we are proud member of the Freeway League. We offer over 60
different clubs from which the students can participate.
Sincerely,
Rich Peterson
